The AKTA was formed in 1970 as a non-profit volunteer organization and has grown to represent approximately 75 teachers from Anchorage and the neighboring towns of Palmer, Wasilla, Eagle River and Girdwood.

The purpose of AKTA is to: 

• Provide programs that support members professional growth

• Provide students and teachers with non-competitive performance events
  

• Provide motivation to students through student-led performing events

• Provide a venue for teacher networking and mentoring

• Provide students with local, state and national performance and composition opportunities
  

• Provide teachers with local, state and national conventions, workshops and national certification
  

• Model high ethical standards of business and professional conduct
